The Big Night

It was Friday, it was tagging night.  It was also pouring rain.  All day... the rain had threatened to put off our big tag.

We had been planning this tagging night for more than a month.... there were potentially 23 people hoping to show up and help to tag our chosen location.  What would the rain do to our plans.

For a few days in advance, we'd been watching the weather report... in hopes of the report changing.  To our great dismay, it never did.

At 2:00 on Friday afternoon, it was suppose to be the peak of the rain... and all we could see was some light drizzling.  KnitMama made a decision.  The tag must go on!!!

The Plan:

Meet at 7:00 at Confederation Square Park... break off into smaller groups... tag the park and leave before we were caught.

Sounds easy enough....

What really happened:

We arrived between 6:50 and 6:55 at the park.  Knitting Mermaid, Knitting Wonder Woman, Little Knitter, KnitMama and I all got out of the van and got our stuff ready.

Our huge supplies bag

7:00 arrived and just like clockwork, some cars began to roll up.  Winged Warrior and Knitting BlackOps arrived first... very closely followed by The Detangler.

A much smaller bag belonging to The Detangler

Winged Warrior brought some unexpected news... circumstances had changed for many of the Kninjas... there were sicknesses and fussy babies (and a few who would melt in the rain)... our Kninjas were dropping like flies.

E.C.K.nista arrived shortly after and so did The Purl-ice, Mother Of Purl and TINKerbell.. along with a potential new Kninja who came to observe the antics.

We were now a crew of 13 and we needed to get to work.

Fast and furious we began to seam.

The rain was pouring down.  The weather report had let us down... it was much heavier now than it had been earlier.  But Kninjas must complete a mission once started!

There was an emergency (probably mud related) and KnitMama had to leave her piece

We seamed while wet, we seamed around wet benches,

The Detangler is putting up hers and Knitting Yoshi's piece

we seamed the wet trees, we seamed with wet yarn and we succeeded.

Before we could walk away from our pieces, they were wet.

You can see how wet TINKerbell's label got

We ran into some obstacles despite all our Kninja skills.  We had camera batteries die, we had memory cards fill up,

Camera technology is a must with tags... we need to document our adventures!

we had fingers lose their fine motor skills being exposed to the elements for so long.

Poor Mother Of Purl could barely move her fingers by the end

The biggest obstacle though was Mother Nature.  With all the rain, all day long... Mother Nature had turned the park into mud.  Both Knitting Wonder Woman and I lost a boot in the mud puddle that will eventually be a bed of tulips.  Knitting Wonder Woman also lost her balance in the middle of the mud puddle and her Wonder Woman outfit lost it's red and blue luster and became a bit more brown.

There were numerous opportunities for people to catch us... but no one paid any attention.  We must have had 20 or so people wander past us on the sidewalk or through the park... not one passerby stopped to ask us what we were doing.  We hoped that the Man In The Tan Coat would wander through.... but alas, we did not see him.

But.. we survived.  We were in and out in 30 minutes and decorated the park with 17 pieces of art.  We left with no evidence the Kninjas had been there except for our art.

More pieces have been added since then... will still a few more possible ones to come.

If you are wanting to see our works of art.... for now you'll have to go and check out Confederation Square Park, Peterborough, ON... we're going to leave you hanging for pictures for a little while longer!

Guest post by The Detangler & KnittingYoshi

It was a bright and chilly end-of-March Sunday morning, and The Detangler and KnittingYoshi decided to put up one of their yarn bombs. After filling up with a good breakfast, they headed into the Downtown Core.
KnittingYoshi  couldn't make up his mind as to whether we would stitch our bomb onto a tree or a lamppost, but after scoping out the trees we decided that the trunks were too small and the branches were too high (The Detangler has some height deficiencies!).
With the KnittingYoshi standing guard, and ready with camera in hand, The Detangler got down to business!
(The picture above will give you a great hint as to where the bomb is located!)

The piece had to be stretched significantly, but The Detangler has some very strong muscles! When she finished stitching up the seam, we realized that we had quite a long bit of leftover yarn, and not wanting to waste even a centimeter, we decided to make a quick pompom.

So, The Detangler wrapped the yarn around her fingers over and over and over until there was just enough to tie a knot around the strands, then used her handy-dandy pocket snippers to cut the loops. Voila! Instant pompom!

After attaching the pompom, and the slick tag for identification, we were done!
THE KNITTING KNINJAS STRIKE AGAIN!
Now, can you find this bomb?

The Big Reveal

Alright... here are the photos I promised.  The tag.. fully completed... hanging up.

The yellow side

The green side

The blue side

You can also see how fancy our new label looks:

See.. not as big as the first makeshift one we did

This is what the front of our new label looks like with our logo (we have lots of fun sayings/puns... this ones says "Keep Calm And Knit One!)

And on the back of the label, we've put who knit it... since soon, you'll be able to see all sorts of tags from the Knitting Kninjas!

And... (drum roll please!), since some people have already told us they've spotted it, we are going to reveal the location of this tag (this time we're actually going to tell you... no cliffhanger!).  This particular tag is hanging out at it's new home on Hunter Street, downtown Peterborough, ON.  It's between Alymer Street and George Street, right in front of the Historic Red Dog.

If you have a chance, get downtown before this tag ends up gone and check it out.  Let us know what you think.
